PRELUDE: It is my duty to bring forward this information. Please note that the commentary offered are quotes by Matthew Henry.

The Observations offered are from Robert offering his commentary as Yeshua’s obedient servant, a Watchman (Ezekiel 33:9).

SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION!

Luke 8:14 KJV
And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

OBSERVATION!

Happy are we, and for ever indebted to free grace, if the same thing that is a parable to others, with which they are only amused, is a plain truth to us, by which we are taught and governed.

We ought to take heed of the things that will hinder our profiting by the word we hear; to take heed lest we hear carelessly and slightly, lest we entertain prejudices against the word we hear; and to take heed to our spirits after we have heard the word, lest we lose what we have gained.

Nor is it enough not to hold the truth in unrighteousness; we should desire to hold forth the word of life and to shine, giving light to all around.

Great encouragement is given to those who prove themselves faithful hearers of the word by being doers of the work. Christ owns them as his relations.

Research shows detailed information concerning the world of infernal, malignant spirits, which, though, not working now exactly in the same way as then, yet all must at all times carefully guard against them being active in our lives. Ephesians 6:12
[12]For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

COMMENTARY!

These malignant spirits are very numerous. They have enmity to man and all his comforts. Those under Christ’s government are sweetly led with the bands of love; those under the devil’s government are furiously driven.

Oh what a comfort it is to the believer, that all the powers of darkness are under the control of Yeshua! It is a miracle of mercy, if those whom Satan possesses, are not brought to destruction and eternal ruin.

Yeshua will not stay with those who slight him; perhaps he may not return to them, while others are waiting for him, and are glad to receive him.

Spiritual strength and courage are needed for our spiritual warfare and suffering. Those who would prove themselves to have true grace must aim at all grace; and put on the whole armour of God, which he prepares and bestows.

OBSERVATION!

We deal with an enemy who has a thousand ways of beguiling unstable souls. The devils assault us in the things that belong to our souls and labour to deface the heavenly image in our hearts. They ply their lies on our ignorance of God’s laws.

We must resolve by God’s grace, not to yield to Satan. Resist him, and he will flee.

Unfortunately many give way, allowing Satan to gain ground. He does so because we distrust either our cause, doubt that Yeshua will keep his promise, hold some doubt in our Leaders teachings, doubt that our armour is sufficient, leads to  giving Satan an advantage. When you analyze these actions you will find it stems from not understanding the true power of faith.

Faith is all in all during an hour of temptation. Faith, as relying on unseen objects, receiving Christ and the benefits of redemption, and so deriving grace from him, is like a shield, a defence every way.

The devil is the wicked one. Violent temptations, by which the soul is set on fire of hell, are darts Satan shoots at us. Also, hard thoughts of God and as to ourselves.

Faith applying the word of God and the grace of Christ quenches the darts of temptation. Salvation must be our helmet. A good hope of salvation, a Scriptural expectation of victory, will purify the soul and keep it from being defiled by Satan.

To the Christian armed for defense in battle, the apostle recommends only one weapon of attack; but it is enough, the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. It subdues and mortifies evil desires and blasphemous thoughts as they rise within and answers unbelief and error as they assault from without.

A single text, well understood and rightly applied, at once destroys a temptation or an objection and subdues the most formidable adversary.

Prayer must fasten all the other parts of our Christian armour. There are other duties of religion, and of our stations in the world, but we must keep up times of prayer.

Though set and solemn prayer may not be seasonable when other duties are to be done, yet short pious prayers darted out, always are so. We must use holy thoughts in our ordinary course.

A vain heart will be vain in prayer. We must pray with all kinds of prayer, public, private, and secret; social and solitary; solemn and sudden: with all the parts of prayer; confession of sin, petition for mercy, and thanksgiving for favours received. And we must do it by the grace of God the Holy Spirit, in dependence on, and according to, his teaching.

We must preserve in particular requests, notwithstanding discouragements. We must pray, not for ourselves only, but for all saints. Our enemies are mighty, and we are without strength, but our Redeemer is almighty, and in the power of his mighty, we may overcome. Wherefore we must stir up ourselves. Have not we, when God has called, often neglected to answer? Let us think upon these things, and continue our prayers with patience.

We have seen cause effect and solution to the question; Why do we not trust Yeshua to run the World he redeemed?

All we need to do is look to Romans 1:22
[22]Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

For whatever may be pretended, as to the sufficiency of man’s reason to discover Divine truth and moral obligation, or to govern the practice aright, facts cannot be denied. And these plainly show that men have dishonoured God by the most absurd idolatries and superstitions; and have degraded themselves by the vilest affections and most abominable deeds.
