SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION!

John 4:10 KJV
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

OBSERVATION!

So there is an understanding on your part; I  desire to set the stage through the following comparison. History shows that Israel and its people had no respect for the Samaritan nation. As we find todays gentiles and backslidden, having contempt and disdain for those bearing the truth.

We know Yeshua saw the world filled with  wolves and warned his disciples.

Matthew 10:16 KJV
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

My comparison brings us to an understanding of who it is we are dealing with, the unbeliever and those walking with the light of Yeshua but are beguiled by the wiles of our enemy (wolves) and have strayed from the narrow path (back slidden).

As we go further into the comparison, we find an action on the part of Yeshua by asking the Samaritan woman for a drink, startling her, because she recognized him as a Jew, who as a nation had nothing but disdain for Samaritans.

John 4:9 KJV
saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

Our comparison is the following: Now being in the den of wolves, we are only asking for the attention of the gentiles, but more specifically, those who may have been beguiled. And like the Samaritan woman, there is surprise because the belief among the lost; that in their minds all is righteous and good in God’s eyes

Matthew 9:13 KJV
But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Those who are effectually brought to Christ can not but desire that others also may be brought to him. Those who suppose their souls to be without disease (being righteous in their minds) will not welcome the words and teachings of our spiritual physician.

You cannot recognize sin if in your mind all is righteous. There is scarcely any sin against which our Lord Jesus more warned his disciples, than disquieting, distracting, distrustful care for the things of this life. Mark 4:19 KJV
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

COMMENTARY!

Those who suppose their souls to be without disease will not welcome the spiritual physician.

This was the case with the Pharisees; they despised Christ because they thought themselves whole and righteous.

The words and works of Christ may not at first be understood, yet they are not, therefore, to be despised. The people were put forth. Scorners who laugh at what they do not understand, are not proper witnesses of the wonderful works of Christ. Dead souls are not raised to spiritual life unless Christ take them by the hand: it is done in the day of his power.

He gives sight to blind souls by the power of his grace going with his word, and he puts the cure upon their faith. Those who apply to Jesus Christ shall be dealt with, not according to their fancies, nor according to their profession, but according to their faith.

Christ’s cures strike at the root and remove the effect by taking away the cause; they open the lips by breaking Satan’s power in the soul.

Nothing can convince those who are under the power of pride. They will believe anything, however false or absurd, rather than the Holy Scriptures; thus, they show the enmity of their hearts against a holy God.

OBSERVATION!

The souls of the meanest in the world are as precious to Christ and should be so to us, as the souls of those who make the greatest figure.

There were priests, Levites, and scribes, all over the land; but they were idol shepherds, Zechariah 11:17; therefore Christ had compassion on the people as sheep scattered, as men perishing for lack of knowledge.

To this day vast multitudes are as sheep not having a shepherd, and we should have compassion and do all we can to help them. The multitudes desirous of spiritual instruction formed a plenteous harvest, needing many active labourers; but few deserved that character.

Yeshua is the Lord of the harvest. Let us pray that many may be raised up and sent forth, who will labour in bringing souls to Christ. It is a sign that God is about to bestow some special mercy upon a people, when he stirs them up to pray for it.

And commissions given to labourers in answer to prayer, are most likely to be successful.

It showed that the intent of the doctrine they preached was to heal sick souls and to raise those that were dead in sin. In proclaiming the gospel of free grace for the healing and saving of men’s souls, we must above all avoid the appearance of the spirit of a hireling.

COMMENTARY!

Our Lord warned his disciples to prepare for persecution. They were to avoid all things which gave advantage to their enemies, all meddling with worldly or political concerns, all appearance of evil or selfishness, and all underhand measures.

Thus Yeshua has dealt fairly and faithfully with us, in telling us the worst we can expect to meet being in his service; and he would have us deal so with ourselves, in sitting down and counting the cost (daily assess your walk and relationship).

Yeshua foretold about troubles, not only that the troubles might not be a surprise, but that they might confirm their faith. He tells them what they should and will suffer, and from whom.

The servant of Christ is the ambassador of peace to whatever place he is sent. His message is even to the vilest sinners, yet it behooves him to find out the best persons in every place. It becomes us to pray heartily for all and to conduct ourselves courteously to all.

We are directed on how to act to those who refuse us. The whole counsel of God must be declared, and those who will not attend to the gracious message must be shown that their state is dangerous.

This should be seriously laid to heart by all that hear the gospel, lest their privileges only serve to increase their condemnation.

OBSERVATION!

In all, we have been shown lays the answer to the question “WOULD YOU KNOW IF LIVING WATER HAS BEEN OFFERED TO YOU?”

CLOSING PRAYER!

Heavenly Father hear this petition! Bring forward your deepening of discernment upon your flocks, Lord. Place an abundance of your love in their hearts to strengthen their demeanor as they face the enemies onslaught. Steel their minds against the firey darts of confusion and mayhem. Light the narrow path before them Heavenly Father that they may share the living water with them to those desiring to quench their spiritual thirst.
