There must be a foundation within our hearts for truth and a righteous spirit to operate from.  The substance and material for this foundation is found in our Lord’s first commandment, which generates this truth and  righteous spirit.  

2 Corinthians 4:6 KJV
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

However many lack the knowledge of this light, as it is found through obedience of our soul (the mind, will, and emotions) through our knowledge and understanding, gained by the presence of the Holy Spirit, guiding us in the use of our heavenly wisdom to worship God 100%, through his teachings revealing the truth told to us by God; Exodus 20:2-5
[2]I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
[3]Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
[4]Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
[5]Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; this is the truth and spirit called for to be abiding and worshipping Yahewa and his Son Yeshua, nothing less.

We must deal plainly with those who urge the law of Moses together with the gospel of Christ, and endeavor to bring believers under its bondage. They could not fully understand the meaning of the law as given by Moses. And was a dispensation of darkness, of bondage; being tied to many burdensome rites and observances, by which they were taught and kept subject like a child under tutors and governors.

We learn the happier state of Believers under the gospel dispensation.  We are shown the wonders of Divine love and mercy; particularly of God the Father, in sending his Son into the world to redeem and save us; of the Son of God, in submitting so low, and suffering so much for us; and of the Holy Spirit, in condescending to dwell in the hearts of believers, for such gracious purposes.

Also, the advantages Christians enjoy under the gospel. Although by nature, children of wrath and disobedience, we become by grace children of love, and partake of the nature of the children of God; for he will have all his children resemble him.

Among men, the eldest son is heir; but all God’s children shall have the inheritance of eldest sons. May the temper and conduct of sons ever show our adoption; and may the Holy Spirit witness with our spirits that we are children and heirs of God.

1 Peter 3:4 KJV
rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

All our knowledge of God begins on his part; we know him because we are known of him. Though our religion forbids idolatry, yet many practice spiritual idolatry in their hearts. For what a man loves most and cares most for, that is his god: some have their riches for their god, some their pleasures, and some their lusts. And many ignorantly worship a god of their own making; a god made all of mercy and no justice. For they persuade themselves that there is mercy for them with God, though they repent not, but go on in their sins.

Romans 1:22-23
[22]Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
[23]And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

It is possible for those who have made great professions of religion to be afterward drawn aside from purity and simplicity. And the more mercy God has shown, in bringing any to know the gospel, and the liberties and privileges of it, the greater their sin and folly in suffering themselves to be deprived of them. Hence, all who are members of the outward church should learn to fear and to suspect themselves. We must not be content because we have some good things in ourselves.

The sinfulness of man is described as ungodliness against the laws of the first tablet of commandments and unrighteousness against those of the second tablet of commandments. The cause of that sinfulness is holding the truth in unrighteousness. All, more or less, do what they know to be wrong and omit what they know to be right so that the plea of ignorance can not be allowed from any.

Paul fears lest his labor is in vain, yet he still labors; and thus to do, whatever follows, is true wisdom and the fear of God. This every man must remember in his place and calling.      

Hence, all who are members of the outward church should learn to fear and to suspect themselves. We must not be content because we have some good things in ourselves.
